Case Study

How a Cosplayer Got 7,500+ Views and 200+ Comments on Reddit in 2 Weeks (Without Posting in Big Subreddits)

Reddit isn't just for crypto bros and meme lords, it's a goldmine for niche creators. But if you’re a cosplayer trying to promote your content, commissions, or events... Reddit can be brutal if you don't play it right.

This case study shows how one cosplayer used Reddit the smart way, earning 7,500+ views, 200+ comments, and a flood of followers using aged accounts, manual upvotes, and niche subreddit strategy.

The Goal

Visibility Without Getting Flagged or Downvoted

Most cosplayers on Reddit make the same mistake: They post directly to r/cosplay or r/pics from a new account, drop a link or tag their Insta... and get removed within minutes.

The goal here was different: "I want more eyes on my work, but I don't want to get banned. I just want to show my photos, get seen, and grow."

So instead of going loud, we went strategic.

  • No personal links or tags
  • No brand-new throwaways
  • No posts in r/pics or r/cosplay
  • No reposts or low-effort shots

We focused on posting in niche cosplay and fandom subs, using high-quality content and aged Reddit accounts.

The Setup

Most creators overlook the best subs. Instead of the huge default ones, we used:

  • r/CosplayProps - great for close-up work, builds, gear
  • r/animecosplay - highly visual, tight-knit community
  • r/comiccon - for convention-focused posts
  • r/SwordArtOnline, r/MyHeroAcadamia, r/Genshin_Impact - fandom-specific cosplay wins here
  • r/cosplaygirls, r/cosplayersgonewild (NSFW optional routes with huge engagement)

We used 3 aged Reddit accounts (4 to 6 years old) with:

  • Karma in anime/gaming/cosplay subs
  • Real comment history
  • No links, no spammy posts
  • At least 1-2 organic contributions in the sub before making the real post

Each post included:

  • 2-5 high-quality images hosted on Reddit or Imgur
  • A fun, personal caption ("Made this for Anime Expo. First time doing foam armor!")
  • No links, no tags, just content and story

The Boost

Manual Upvotes + Strategic Timing = Top Posts

We used GETUpvotes.com to manually push each post just enough to get seen.

How we did it:
– 50-150 upvotes per post
– Drip-fed over 3-5 hours
– Only after the post got 3-5 organic upvotes
– Never over-upvoted-kept it looking natural

Best times to post for Cosplay content:

Timing made a huge difference. Combined with aged accounts, we hit top 5 in every subreddit we targeted.

The Results: 7,500+ Views, 200+ Comments, and Real Growth

Here's how it added up over 14 days.

No links were posted. Reddit users searched the cosplayer's handle on their own.
